Zama dance school supported by Pick n Pay.

Doing good is good business

The Zama Dance School in Gugulethu, Cape Town is the brainchild of former dancer and dance teacher Arlene Westergaard. Her class of just six young protégés, whom she began teaching in a church hall in the township in 1984, has grown into an internationally recognised training institution that facilitates classes for over 100 students every year. In support of Arlene’s unwavering passion and determination to teach ballet to underprivileged children, Raymond Ackerman founded the Zama Dance School Trust, which was responsible for moving the school into brand-new custom-made premises. PnP remains the school’s major benefactor, "I expect Zama to continue to grow… to continue with its excellent standards of dance and hopefully to produce many more students,” says former PnP CEO Raymond Ackerman.
